Anatomy of the Ankle Joint
The talus is the second largest of the tarsal bones, next to the heel bone. It articulates with the tibia, fibula, calcaneus, and navicular. The heel bone (calcaneus) is the largest bone in the foot. It joins the talus to form the subtalar joint, which enables the foot to rotate at the ankle. The motions of the subtalar joint are referred to as pronation and supination.
